FOOD JUNCTION TO OPEN FOOD COURT IN NEX, THE
UPCOMING RETAIL PROJECT AT SERANGOON CENTRAL
SINGAPORE, 14 Apr 2009 - Mainboard-listed
Food Junction Holdings Limited ("Food
Junction" or "the Group"), which
manages and operates 17 food courts in Singapore,
Malaysia, Indonesia and China, announced today
that it has accepted the offer from Gold Ridge
Pte Ltd, for the operation of an approximately
17,000 square-feet food court in nex
(new exciting xperiences
- the name of the upcoming retail project at the
heart of Serangoon Central).
The six-storey shopping mall is targeted to open
in 2010. The mall, which sits above the existing
Serangoon station of the North-East line and the
upcoming Circle line, will be integrated at basement
2 with a 16-bay bus interchange. Positioned as
a mid-market, family-oriented regional mall offering
a vibrant and extensive selection of shopping,
dining and leisure options, the mall will serve
the highly-populated primary residential catchment
of Serangoon, secondary residential estates of
Bishan, Ang Mo Kio, Hougang and Sengkang, as well
as the industrial estates of Paya Lebar and Toa
Payoh.
Sharing level four of the shopping mall with
a 10-screen cineplex, a family-themed karaoke
centre and a video games arcade, amongst others,
the Food Junction food court is set to enjoy strong
traffic flow whilst at the same time drawing a
strong following for the mall.
Said Mr Andrew Fu, Food Junction's Managing Director,
"We are excited about the opportunity to
infuse Food Junction's unique dining experiences
into such a strategic location in Serangoon Central.
As the food court's design concept and tenant
mix are being developed, we are focused on one
commitment - to deliver good value to customers
and set a new benchmark of excellence for our
Group. At the same time, we are confident that
nex will live up to its expectations
as the new hub for Serangoon Central, and the
place-to-go for everyone living and working in
the vicinity."
Commenting on the Group's expansion plan despite
the economic downturn, Mr Fu said, "Whilst
we are operating in a very challenging business
landscape, we are still optimistic about the long-term
potential of the food and beverage retail industry
in Singapore. After all, people need to eat, and
the downturn may actually draw more people to
food courts and restaurants that focus on value
- this is why we are strongly committed to expanding
our footprint in Singapore and the region."
Apart from its 17 food courts in Singapore and
the region, Food Junction also operates 56 food
and beverage stalls in these food courts. As part
of its strategy to enhance consumers' dining experiences,
the Group has upgraded some of its existing food
courts into lifestyle food courts with wider menu
choices. The Group recently re-opened its food
court at Singapore's Raffles City Shopping Centre,
rebranded as "The Food Place"
which is unique only to Raffles City. Other earlier
initiatives include the enhancement of its Great
World City food court into a child-friendly venue,
complete with kids' menus; as well as a complete
makeover of its Junction 8 and Lot One Shoppers'
Mall food courts.
Elsewhere, the Group opened its third food court
in Kuala Lumpur's Mid Valley City under the "Food
Garden" brand in December 2008. Its second
food court in Jakarta - at Pluit Village (formerly
known as Megamal Pluit) - is scheduled to open
in the second quarter of 2009.
Apart from food courts, Food Junction also owns
restaurants such as Malone's American Cafés
in Shanghai, which they acquired in October 2008;
and TETSU, a Japanese restaurant
located at Singapore's Tanglin Mall, which opened
in January 2008. It also owns and operates the
premium gift boutique, kokoro, at
Singapore's Great World City.
About Food Junction Holdings Limited
With an established track record of 15 years,
Food Junction manages and operates a total of
17 food courts - 12 in Singapore, three in Malaysia,
one in Jakarta and one in China. It also self
operates 56 F&B stalls, out of the 243 stalls
in the Group's food court business.
As a food court management specialist, Food Junction
manages the operational aspects of its food courts,

As part of its efforts to refresh the dining
experience of its customers, Food Junction upgrades
its food courts and introduces new F&B concepts.
The Group has since moved into restaurant operations
with the opening of its first Japanese restaurant
